Don’t give hackers a vulnerability to exploit – update everything!

No one enjoys being interrupted by a notification of a software update, but the time spent updating right away is well worth preventing the hassle of untangling yourself from a cybersecurity threat. Updates often contain patches to programming flaws and improved security against new threats – so take the time to update right away.

This is true for everything connected to your wi-fi such as video doorbells, pet and nanny cams, and even lights. If it’s using software connected to the internet, it needs to be updated regularly.

A lot of software will allow you to set up automatic updates. Check settings to see what’s possible and whether a restart is required for updates to fully take effect.

Be sure to only download updates from trusted sources, and if you notice that your device is no longer supported, it’s probably time to upgrade. An outdated device that cannot update is a major security hazard.
